Leaf collection is one of the Service Department’s biggest undertakings each year.
COLLECTION SCHEDULE: Leaf crews will follow a collection schedule based upon four zones throughout the City. Typically, leaf collection begins in mid-October and ends in early January when all of the leaves have been picked up. The schedule and corresponding map can be found below.
Leaf collection is dependent on many factors — the weather, the size of piles, equipment failures, staffing factors, etc. Please be patient with our crews as they do their best to collect leaves efficiently. Following the City’s guidelines on this page will greatly help us with the process.
The Service Department will do two rounds of leaf pickup according to the schedule below. A third round of pickup is likely, but the schedule is weather-dependent.
If you have any questions about the leaf collection service, please call the Service Department office at 330-468-8330.

5 Leaf Collection Tips for More Efficient Service
- Rake Leaves in Windrows, Not Piles: Place leaves into long rows (also called windrows), not big piles, along your tree lawn on curbed streets, or along the street side of the ditch-line or berm. If you have no berm, you can place the leaves on the house side of the ditch-line.
- Do Not Rake Leaves into Street or Ditch: In all cases, do not place leaves into the street and do not fill the drainage ditches, as this causes safety and drainage hazards. Blocked water flow has the potential to cause flooding.
- All Windrows Should Be Within 10 Feet from Road Edge and Obstructions: All leaf windrows shall be placed no further than 10 feet from the roadway edge, which is the maximum reach of the leaf vacuum hose. Crews will not go further than 10 feet from the roadway edge to collect leaves. Place leaf windrows a minimum of 10 feet away from obstructions such as: mailboxes, utility poles, fire hydrants, and landscaping features. These items make leaf vacuuming more time consuming and difficult.
- Only Leaves, Please: Do not place sticks, twigs, trash, rocks, grass clippings, or other foreign material in the windrows. These materials can clog or cause damage to the vacuum machines. If these items are found in your windrow, the crew will stop collection and not return until the debris is removed.
- Rake Leaves Early and Often: Rain and snow can cause delays to our collection efforts. The earlier you rake your leaves out for collection, the better the City can do to get them picked up efficiently. The same workers and trucks that are used to collect leaves are also used to plow snow and spread salt, so inclement weather will cause delays.
